Total Workplace Management celebrates World FM Day with trip to the London Eye

In celebration of World FM Day (24th June), United Business Media (UBM), organisers of Total Workplace Management & The Facilities Show treated their in-house FM team to a VIP trip on the London Eye.

2010 has already seen the exhibition organiser achieve the Carbon Trust Standard whilst also hitting its 5 year electricity reduction target of 40%. Phil Walker, Facility Manager for UBM said: “Aside from continuing with our 90% recycle rate, our main FM focus for the last 5 years has been to reduce our energy usage by 200,000 kWh, this equates to a monthly reduction of 134 CO2 tonnes & all contributed to achieving the Carbon Trust Standard this March. To achieve the standard & target this year is fantastic & has kept us on target with UBM’s sustainability goals.”

To celebrate these achievements, Fergus Bird and Charles Oakley from the Total Workplace Management sales team took Dermot Hughes, Head of Facilities for United Media Group Services, and Robin Rugg, Facilities Co-ordinator at United Business Media, to the London landmark.

Dermot Hughes thoroughly enjoyed his trip to the Eye: “What a fantastic way to spend World FM Day – I would like to thank the Total Workplace Management team for a wonderful experience and I will certainly not forget that anytime soon.”

Robin Rugg, who has been working with the Total Workplace Management team for a number of years, said: “That was my first visit to the London Eye and I really enjoyed the experience - the Total Workplace Management team really looked after us. It’s gratifying to know that the work put in by the FM team in supporting our colleagues over the last year had been appreciated, I’m already looking forward to World FM Day 2011!”

Total Workplace Management is the UK’s largest FM and estates event. It is committed to providing the facilities management industry with a platform to grow and develop. Produced in association with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the 2010 event is taking place from 6-7 October at London Olympia. Containing an extensive exhibition and more than 15 hours of free educational content, it promises to be the highlight of the 2010 FM calendar.

Adrian Newton, Event Director of Total Workplace Management, said: “It’s important that the FM profession has its day to recognise all the hard work they put in. Within our event, we have seen in recent years how the role of the facilities manager has expanded to incorporate greater responsibilities. So a day like World FM Day is a great opportunity to give something back to those who work so hard for us.”

Total Workplace Management is co-located with Energy Solutions, the UK’s fastest growing energy management event, and M&E – The Building Services Event, the UK’s only dedicated building services event. Care Show London will also be taking place alongside the three events.
