Total Workplace Management 2009 highlights strength of industry

Total Workplace Management 2009, 7-8 October – London Olympia

Total Workplace Management, the UK’s largest FM and estates event, welcomed 33% more visitors* than last year when the 2009 event took place from 7 – 8 October at London Olympia.

Adrian Newton, Portfolio Director for Safety and Building Management at UBM Live, organisers of Total Workplace Management, said: “We are in constant communication with the industry which has helped us evolve the show since its inception. It was more vital than ever to deliver a comprehensive programme to ensure visitors were able to address all their professional needs under one roof and the figures demonstrate our success at doing this. We believe Total Workplace Management will continue to act as a platform for the FM industry to grow further and we look forward to repeating our success in 2010.”

Education has long played a central role at Total Workplace Management and 2009 continued this trend with the introduction of a new series of seminars entitled “Sustainable Reality”. These popular, free-of-charge seminars focussed on a variety of topics regarding the practical delivery of sustainability and the implications on businesses. The sessions were held in the FM Academy, sponsored by FMX. Speakers included:

Ø      Glynnan Barham, Climate and Emissions Controller, Natural History Museum

Ø      Phil Jones, Senior Research Fellow, London South Bank University

Ø      Nick Gibbins, Associate Director, Development and Regeneration, Upstream Sustainability Services, Jones Lang LaSalle

Ø      Abena Poku-Awuah, Sustainable Development Group, AECOM

Presentations were delivered on the most cutting-edge issues in the FM industry including ‘The Green Crunch: The Viability of Sustainability during Recession’, ‘Green Planning’, ‘FM Design Dialogues’ and ‘Renewable Energy Systems’.

Visitors were also able to attend complimentary seminars in the Managing Safety & Health Seminar Theatre, supported by SHP. In addition, the Green500 Energy Efficient IT Conference took place alongside Total Workplace Management on Thursday 8th October.

This year’s event saw the introduction of new features to compliment the established mainstays of the event including Be2Camp at Working Buildings - a facilitated, participant-driven "unconference" centered around Web 2.0 and the built environment.

The interactive feature “Workplace of the Future”, sponsored by Hi-Design and supported by FX and FMX, showcased the latest products and innovations for making the workplace more efficient whilst remaining sustainable and cost effective.

Feedback from exhibitors at Total Workplace Management clearly demonstrate the event’s success:

Kirsty Baillie Hanicke, Marketing Communications Manager for Bywaters, said: “Bywaters has exhibited at and been the official recycling sponsor at Total Workplace Management for the past four years. There was a steady stream of visitors to the stands over both days who were interested in Bywaters’ products and services. Our current economic climate dictates that it is quality not quantity that counts and this year’s event certainly exceeded expectations.”

Paul Statham, Managing Director, RNM Systems /Condeco, said: “Exhibiting at Total Workplace Management 2009 was definitely a success for us! Our workspace management software and digital signage fitted perfectly with the theme of the event which meant that we had a lot of interest from the numerous visitors at the exhibition. We are confident that Total Workplace Management will provide us with a lot of business in the coming year and as a result, we have already signed up to exhibit in 2010.”

Supported by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), Total Workplace Management was co-located with Energy Solutions Expo, the UK’s fastest growing energy management event, and M&E – The Building Services Event, the UK’s only dedicated building services event, as part of Working Buildings 2009.

Total Workplace Management returns to London Olympia from 6 – 7 October 2010. Companies interested in exhibiting should contact Fergus Bird on 020 7921 8660, fergus.bird@ubm.com or Charles Oakley on 020 7921 8048, charles.oakley@ubm.com.
